The Los Angeles Rams are expected to sign offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth when the NFL’s new year commences Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Whitworth, 35, started 164 games in 11 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. The three-time Pro Bowler — and a first-team All-Pro in 2015 —  will protect the blind side of second-year quarterback Jared Goff and bolster an offensive line that struggled to create running lanes for Todd Gurley last season.

Pro Football Focus ranked Whitworth as its ninth-best available free agent in 2017. Whitworth isn’t a long-term solution, but he’ll play an integral role in the development of Goff and the implementation of head coach Sean McVay’s offense.
